MapRun Lincolnshire

MapRun is ‘virtual’ orienteering using a SmartPhone:  all that you need to run the courses is a smartphone with the MapRun app or a Garmin watch with the app and a printed map. You can choose to also print off a copy of the map and control descriptions for full training value, if you want. Downloads MapRun6 in Google Play and the Apple AppStore; MapRunG in Garmin Connect

Join us this autumn for a series of ‘hosted’ MapRun events! – visit the Autumn Series page for details.

You can see all MapRun courses within 50 miles of Lincoln Cathedral here on the MapRun.uk website, and another search tool on Go Orienteering. From within the MapRun app on your phone, find very local courses to wherever you are standing using the “Events Near Me”, or more widely by searching for events in the South Lincolnshire folder.  #OrienteeringOnDemand

*   –  if you click the MapRun code on your mobile phone and have the app installed it will load the event directly, without the need to navigate the event folders!
+  –  occasionally a map will be PIN protected so that it cannot be used before the PIN is shared, e.g. on a training night or for a time-limited challenge.
^  –  these maps are based on OpenOrienteeringMap and not ‘proper’ ISOM style orienteering maps.

To build a course, we’ve produced an extensive guide with step by step instructions and helpful images to guide you through the process. This can be found here. One of the things not covered is the types of events that you can produce, as MapRun are adding types fairly often. You can find the course types, with the naming conventions at this link: https://maprunners.weebly.com/scoring-schemes.html

If you produce a course that you would like to share, please email the kml, kmz and pdf files to [email protected] and the team will go about putting them on the website and app.
